Hoddinott Hall in the WMC was at full capacity as Cambrensis Choir and Orchestra, under the batons of Kelvin Thomas, Jonathan Davies and Graeme Hunter, produced an evening of joyful and beautiful Christmas music enabling all to celebrate this wonderful season!
The audience joined us in singing traditional carols and the choir’s repertoire ranged from an 18th Century French carol arranged by the contemporary composer, Dan Forrest, the beautiful Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming arranged by Howard Helvey, through to the lively Nova Nova by the modern composer Iain Farrington, some Getty and Townend, One Amazing Night by Cloninger and Stirling and several more. Plus, of course, a choir’s Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a sprinkling of John Rutter’s lovely compositions!
We were particularly pleased to sing two pieces by the composer Prof Christopher Wood and arranged by Jonathan Rathbone: A Brighter Light and How Many Days to Christmas. It was especially good to have Christopher there on the night in the audience.
The Cambrensis Orchestra played to an excellent standard under the leadership of David Lewis and delighted us with John Williams’ Somewhere in my Memory and Dvorak’s Slavonic Dance Opus 46 No 8.
This year our Guest Artist was Dai Woolridge of Spoken Truth. He held the audience captive as he shared truths about Christmas in his thought provoking and humorous manner.
Our 56 choir members, 3 MDs, David Lewis and the orchestra look forward to seeing you in December 2026 –keep an eye here and on Facebook for the date and for info on our other concerts.
